FAO: World is off-track to meet most food and agriculture-related Sustainable Development Goals
22.07.2019 16:24 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of now, the world has become off-track to meet most of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets linked to hunger, food security and nutrition, FAO says referring to the
FAO report Tracking Progress on Food and Agriculture-Related SDG Indicators.
«The report paints a grim picture. Four years into the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, regression is the norm when it comes to ending hunger and rendering agriculture and the management of natural resources be that on land or in our oceans sustainable,» said Pietro Gennari, FAO Chief Statistician, while commenting on the Tracking Progress report.
It is to be admitted, the Tracking Progress report main findings are: global hunger continuous rise (with over 820 million people remaining hungry and the number of hungry people remaining on the rise for three years in a row); small-scale food producers earnings being about half that of larger food producers; high food price volatility within many developing countries; over half of local livestock breeds being at risk of extinction (with no progress in conserving animal genetic resources made and ongoing efforts to preserve these resources being inadequate); fresh water shiortage and forests’ losss.
It is to be admitted, at same time, the Tracking Progress report puts forward a number of efficient recommendations aimed at reversing these worsening trends.
