Agrarian Ministry, EU experts start implementing EU requirements for Ukrainian fruit jams and like products

As of yesterday, a round table ‘Implementation of European requirements for fruit jams and similar products’ was held, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Foods reports.
As to the report, the round table was organized by the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Foods together with the European Union Project ’Support to Ukrainian agricultural and foods policy’. The event was attended by the representatives of the Agrarian Policy Ministry, the State Committee for Consumer Safety, the EU Project, industry associations, profile producers and importers.
"Today, we have started an important work wich is another step towards the introduction of the EU standards for the Ukrainian products. The result of this work should be a number of advantages for all the Ukrainian market participants. The domestic producers are expected to gain competitive advantages both on the external and on the domestic markets: thus, in particular, they can expand their potential consumers’ range. Correspondingly, the consumers are expected to be offered qualitative and safe products that would meet their expectations and requirements, " Director General of the Directorate for Strategic Planning and European Integration Oleksandr Zhemojda has said while speaking within the round table opening.
It is to be admitted, the round table participants were told about the basic principles of the European system for the regulation of the jams’ output/trade (which are based, among others, on Council Directive 2001/113 / EC on fruit jams, jellies, marmalades).
As to the report, the round table participants decided that all the interested parties would send to the Ukrainian Agrarian Ministry their proposals for new requirements for the jam products’ output. The Agrarian Ministry experts, having analyzed the proposals, would organize a new round table to show the first variant of the requirements’ list.
