Poroshenko about meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel: We agreed to intensify processes within Minsk format

As of yesterday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told that the result of his meeting with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel within the framework of the working visit to Malta was the agreement to conduct trilateral negotiations between the leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France within short time. These negotiations are meant to intensify the Minsk peace process, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«We have conducted very thorough negotiations with the German Chancellor. We have agreed to hold telephone negotiations in trilateral format with participation of Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of France Francois Hollande next week regarding the intensification of process in the Minsk format,» Poroshenko admitted.
Also, as of yesterday, following the EPP Summit, Ukrainian President noted that the issue of Ukraine had been one of the most important issues for Europe and speeches of many leaders had been the evidence of that. In particular, German Chancellor Angela Merkel had drawn attention of the whole party to the importance of Ukraine for Europe.
It is to be admitted, within the expanded EPP Summit, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the President ensured the representation of Ukrainian interests at a high level.
As to the report, Ukrainian President also told about his having had a meeting with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
Besides, Poroshenko said that within his meetings at the EPP Summit, the parties had discussed three key issues for Ukraine: consideration of the introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians by the European Parliament, completion of ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement and provision of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. As to Ukrainian President, all sides assured that these issues would be solved shortly.
