FAO: East Africa drought pushing food prices up sharply
15.02.2017 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Food prices in some East African markets have almost doubled within the past 12 months because of an ongoing drought, UN Radio says referring to the FAO latest Food Price Monitoring and Analysis Bulletin data.
As to the Bulletin, the local prices for maize, sorghum and other cereals are «near or at record levels» in areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.
The Bulletin says the drought has affected the southern part of the region but within some countries, like Somalia and South Sudan, the crisis has been made worse because of conflict and violence.
