24.01.2017 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Germany contributed a record EUR791.5 million to the WFP (UN World Food Programme) last year; funds which the UN agency used to feed millions of hungry people across the globe, UN Radio says referring to WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin report.
As to Cousin, this funding has been the «all-time record» in terms of support from this country.
It is to be admitted, the German funding also includes the single largest contribution ever to a WFP operation, with EUR570 million going to restoring food assistance to nearly six million people in Syria and neighbouring countries.
«Whether to families affected by the Syrian crisis, in drought-stricken southern Africa, or across Yemen and Ethiopia, Germanys generosity provides not only food assistance but is an opportunity to make hunger a thing of the past,» WFP Chief stressed.
