Baranivskiy: agrarians enlarged 2006 rape sown areas up to 454,000 ha

Speaking on International Agricultural Exhibition-Fair AGRO-2006 ceremonial opening, Oleksandr Baranivskiy, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy, declared domestic agrarians have enlarged rape sown areas (2006 crop) up to 454,000 ha. «We have widened rape sown areas 3 times up against last year and 5 times up against 2004, and now we have 454,000 ha rape sown areas» stated Baranivskiy. Acting Minister specified this year rape sown areas are up 246,600 ha (+ 118.9%) against last year. As to regions operative data, this year agrarians have sown spring rape at 128,000 ha. It is to be reminded, within 2005 autumn winter rape had been sown at 418,400 ha (as to Ministry of Agrarian Policy data), but after winter ending rape was resown at 138,000 ha. As earlier reported, Ministry of Agrarian Policy considers it expedient to enlarge rape sown areas to 1.5 mn ha, up 8 times, to cover 5% total Ukrainian sown areas structure. As to State Statistics Committee, in 2005 agrarians had produced 284,700 MT rape (with yielding capacity equaling to 14,6 metric centners per ha); rape was harvested at 195,180 ha.
