12.07.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, while addressing the first High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development since the adoption of Agenda 2030 (to be held within this year Jul 1120), Wu Hungbo, a senior official with the UN Economic and Social Affairs Council, said eradicating extreme poverty is the «greatest global challenge», UN Radio reports. e
It is to be admitted, within the Forum twenty-two countries are expected to share their progress in implementing the global goals to end poverty while protecting the planet.
As to Hungbo, the 2030 Agenda promises to «leave no one behind», and the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs are a blueprint for what the world needs to do and how to get there.
«The 2030 Agenda recognizes that eradicating extreme poverty is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. In the decade from 2002 to 2012 the proportion of the worlds population living below the poverty line dropped by half from 26 to 13 per cent. While significant, there will be need for bolder actions to be taken in order to eliminate poverty entirely,» Hungbo admitted.
It is to be mentioned, the Forum will adopt a ministerial declaration on this year Jul 20 to provide leadership, guidance and recommendations on the implementation of the Agenda 2030.
