31.12.2014 10:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine is steadily moving towards energy independence, Government Portal says referring to the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk report at a press conference on 30 December.
The Prime Minister told that the Chairman of Energoatom Yurii Nedashkovsky was in Brussels, where he "signed an agreement with Westinghouse to expand our cooperation and to substantially diversify nuclear fuel supplies from the US company Westinghouse.
«So, we are gradually moving from dependence on Russia towards energy independence, the Prime Minister underlined. In particular, it relates to the modernization of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, including the completion of two units. I advocate the completion of two units at existing nuclear power plants.»
As to the report, Yatseniuk noted that «now we have raised the Ukrainian nuclear power capacity from 50% to 65% of total energy market.»
The PM said that, on the one hand, this is the cheapest electricity, on the other hand, due to the rise of the dollar, nuclear fuel has also become more expensive.
«In what concerns the nuclear fuel supplies, they are in line with the schedule. We make payments on schedule. I hope that our partners will also fulfill their obligations due to the schedule,» the PM told.
