Melnyk: agrarians will shorten sunflower sown areas down to 3.1 mn ha
04.04.2006 10:43 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to Vice-Premier Yuriy Melnyk, he hopes this year agrarians will reduce sunflower sown areas to 3.1 mn ha, down against last year 3.7 mn ha.
Melnyk is convinced this year agrarians must actively sow other technical crops (in part. rape/soybeans) as alternative to sunflower.
Vice-Premier is certain agrarians will also boost rape/soybeans sown areas.
As earlier reported, Ministry of Agrarian Policy experts had forecasted this spring
agrarians would sow sunflower at 3.1 mn ha (down 0.6 million ha as of 2005), soybeans at 569,400 ha (up against 435,100 ha in 2005), spring rape at 169,900 ha (up as of 86,800 ha in 2005).
2005 sunseeds crop totaled to 4.706 mn MT (in terms of weight after additional processing), up 1.656 mn MT (+ 54.3%) against 2004.
Domestic agrarians are actively growing sunflower due to considering it one of most liquid crops.
2005 sunseeds production profitability had declined to 24.7% (down against 45.2% in 2004).
2005 soybeans crop had risen to 613,000 MT (in terms of weight after additional processing), up against 363,000 MT in 2004.
2005 rape crop had grown to 284,800 MT, up 138,900 MT (+ 91.2%) as of 2004.
