Yanukovych: Ukraine and Belarus agree on common actions in trade-economic sphere

Yesterday President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko discussed a wide spectrum of bilateral relations’ issues and determined prospects of cooperation, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports.
Viktor Yanukovych informed that the parties had discussed primarily trade-economic cooperation.
«Belarus is one of our main trade partners. Bilateral trade turnover between our countries in 2012 reached a record level of 7.5 billion USD. It’s not a limit. That’s why we agreed that our top-priority task is to conduct joint measures in trade-economic cooperation,» the President noted.
According to the President, the parties agreed to fully use the economic potential of the states in order to further increase mutual trade. In this context, particular attention is paid to activation of intersectoral interaction.
«The example of efficient mutually beneficial cooperation in transport sphere is combined and container railway transportation by trains „Zubr» and „Viking"," the Head of State stressed.
According to him, there are significant prospects for broadening cooperation in the electricity sector, in particular by ensuring the supply of Ukrainian electricity to the Baltic countries using transit opportunities Belarus.
Viktor Yanukovych also emphasized that Ukraine and Belarus were willing to increase mutual supply of agro-industrial products.
Under the results of negotiations, Governments of Ukraine and Belarus are instructed to examine all new promising joint projects and topical initiatives.
