Olav Kjørven, Director of Policy at the UN Development Programme, told reporters on Tuesday that the fate of global issues is being decided behind closed doors but this is about to change.
He said the United Nations has national consultations in up to 100 countries which include the most vulnerable groups such as women, the youth, indigenous people and people with disabilities and is already getting results from these consultations.
«Thousands of people are also participating on line in thematic global consultations on issues like inequality, health, growth and employment, environmental sustainability, governance, conflict and fragility. And then there is the MY World survey. Available now in six languages, it invites people to vote for six out of sixteen priorities for the future development agenda whats important to individual human beings around the world,» admitted Mr. Kjørven.
Votes can be submitted online, and in some countries by mobile phone or through offline ballots.
Olav Kjørven said the results of these consultations and the survey will be presented to decision makers in the coming days, weeks and months.
