Spring flood will be within or lower the norm

High water is not expected in 2013, chairman of the State Emergency Service Mykhailo Bolotskikh told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
«The spring flood this year will be mostly below the normal level and within the annual norm. High water with negative consequences is not expected this year,» the chairman said.
At the same time, he said that most serious complications during high water period are expected in Volyn region and Rivne region.
«The maximum level of water can lead to partial flooding of some settlements by waters of the Prypiat River Basin,» Bolotskikh explained.
According to him, there can be complications in the surrounding areas of the Dnipro River in Chernihiv region.
«We are ready for any turn of events,» the official assured, adding that preparations for the high water are early, intensive and of high quality. The appropriate headquarters have been established in all regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, the head of the State Emergency Service admitted that today there are problems with the cleaning of small rivers, drainage channels and drain sewage and water flows. He said that in the near future the Cabinet will issue instructions to the local authorities to remove these problems in a short time. In addition, the increased control will be carried out over the discharge of water from ponds and small reservoirs.
