Ukraine will become a world leading maize exporter

Coordinated actions of the government and farmers will help Ukraine to become one of the worlds leading exporters of maize. First results of government policy to increase the export potential of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) of the country are an increase of the maize exports in 2013 by one third, ForUm reports referring to the Ukrainian Cabinet Information-Analytical Bulletin.
During this marketing year domestic farmers have increased maize export by 3 million tons year-on-year. Total supplies of maize reached 9.5 million tons. According to the Ukraines Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, who summarized the year exports, maize remains Ukraines main export crop.
«By the new year farmers have supplied to foreign markets 9.5 million tons of the new harvest maize. That is over 3 million tons more year-on-year,» Prysyazhnyuk said.
He added that maize is in high demand on global markets. Therefore, Ukraine will continue to expand the existing and find new markets in 2014.
In November and December, 3.6 million tons of maize were sold abroad. Other crops were exported in the amount of 1.8 million tons.
In total during 2013 Ukraine have supplied to foreign markets 18.5 million tons of grain, which is 4 million tons more year-on-year. «In 2013, we exceeded the planned volume of grain exports. This is very important, as it is an indicator of the domestic grain logistics organization,» the minister noted.
