Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kozhara meets with UN Secretary General

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, currently on a four-day working visit to the United States, has met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, NRCU says referring to the Foreign Ministry’s information policy department Wednesday report.
The UN Secretary-General admitted that the first steps taken by the Ukrainian Chairmanship of the OSCE testified to the importance of Ukraine’s role in the European region and the international arena as a whole. «Having exchanged the views on the priorities of the Ukrainian chairmanship, the parties noted that the United Nations and the OSCE had many common objectives. They outlined promising areas of their cooperation. The UN secretary-general praised Ukraine’s contribution to global nuclear security and disarmament and its peacekeeping efforts,» the report reads. On Tuesday Kozhara met with representatives of the Jewish community at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York City to discuss the current state of relations between Ukraine and the United States and ways to support the humanitarian needs of the Jewish community and preserve the Jewish cultural heritage in Ukraine. He praised the contribution made by the Jewish community in the United States to the development of strategic partnership with Ukraine and Ukraine’ s rapprochement with the European Union. During his visit Kozhara also met with top managers of leading U.S. companies working in Ukraine or interested in doing business in Ukraine, including Coca-Cola and Westinghouse. They discussed the possibility of attracting U.S. investment in Ukraine’s agricultural and energy sectors, prospects for the IT market development, and the government’s steps to improve the business environments in Ukraine. U.S. businessmen stated their support for Ukraine’s European integration efforts and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU this fall. They also discussed the possibility of concluding a new standby loan agreement between Ukraine and the IMF.
