FAO and Germany support anti-hunger initiative in West Africa
19.10.2012 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Building strong partnerships to eradicate hunger is the main objective of a project launched by Germany, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), says UN Radio.
The project aims to strengthen existing policies and programmes among the 15 ECOWAS countries as they work to fight hunger through agricultural development.
The project will help ECOWAS realize the Regional Partnership Compact for the Implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Plan (CAADP).
The plan emphasizes closer integration of nutrition into national and regional agricultural investment policies, as well as improved coordination on issues such as food security and social protection.
FAO says the three-year project is expected to result in increased budget allocations for food and nutrition security.
Germany will provide $2.4 million for the initiative, which will be co-funded by ECOWAS.
