General Assembly wraps up annual debate
03.10.2012 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The UN General Assembly wrapped up its annual debate on Monday evening after hearing from leaders from around the world, says UN Radio.
More than 190 heads of State and Government, Vice presidents, prime ministers, foreign ministers and heads of delegations expressed their views on the current state of the world.
In closing remarks General Assembly President Vuk Jeremic of Serbia said it has been a week of thoughtful and constructive interventions by the General Assemblys Member States.
«The overarching theme I chose for this years general debate was bringing about adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations by peaceful means. Over the past week we have heard thoughtful and constructive interventions on this critical topic. This catalyzed a fruitful discourse in the plenary and at numerous side events, in turn stimulating many bilateral consultations. Some speakers offered concrete proposals on how the mechanisms that are in place can better be utilized. These included costs to include support for the UNs peacekeeping efforts.»
