Ukraine, Turkey to sign FTA agreement by the year’s end

Ukraine and Turkey will finalize the free trade area agreement by the end of 2012, Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during the yesterday meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, ForUm ForUm correspondent reports.
«Certainly, the FTA agreement is a very important element of our trade relations, and we expect that this agreement will be signed before the end of the year. Our economic ministers will finalize the agreement by the end of the year. Taking into account that the economies of Turkey and Ukraine are complementary, they are attractive to investors,» Erdogan said.
According to him, today the trade turnover between Ukraine and Turkey amounts to 6.5 billion dollars.
«Our goal is to reach 20 billion by 2015. We need to intensify efforts to promote opportunities for investors in our countries,» he said.
In turn, the President promised that the agreement will take into account the interests of both parties.
«I and Mr. Erdogan specifically noted the progress of negotiations on creating a free trade area. The government delegations are working to accommodate the interests of the both countries producers,» Yanukovych said.
