Baranovskiy forecasts 2005-grain high cost due to fuel/fertilizers high prices

Oleksandr Baranovskiy, Minister of
Agrarian Policy, considers 2005-crop each grain ton cost will be much
higher against 2004-crop similar due to this season agrarians used diesel
fuel/mineral fertilizers high prices, reports Ukrainian News referring to
Baranovskiy speech on Ministry of Agrarian Policy session.
Minister didn’t provide additional details.
It is to be reminded, 2004-crop grain cost (as to
preliminary data) equaled to UAH377/t (wheat UAH378/t).
As earlier reported, Cabinet had agreed with petroleum
processing plants about supplying agrarians with 600.000t diesel fuel
(UAH2.400/t) for spring sowing, yet in Mar plants refused to continue
preferential prices fuel shipments due to petroleum prices growth and
declared they were ready to sell only UAH2.8003.100/t. Government,
through negotiations/administrative measures, had agreed with petroleum
processing plants on continuing agrarians UAH2.400/t fuel shipments.
Cabinet agreed with chemical fertilizers producers upon mineral (in
particular nitric) fertilizers prices fixing as much as UAH825/t for
agrarians springtime field works.
As to Ministry of Agrarian Policy experts, domestic agrarians
annual diesel fuel requirement is 1.9 million tons (with 0.6 million tons
needed for spring sowing), mineral fertilizers demand 1 million tons (in
terms of nutritive substances).
