Hydrometeorological Center: High temperature will lead to reduction of early grain crops yield by 10-30%
28.05.2012 12:48 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
High temperature, set since the end of April may lead to reduction in the yield of early spring grain cultures by 1030%. This forecast was aired by head of the agrometeorological department of the Hydrometeorological Center Tetiana Adamenko.
«Hot weather at the end of April and the first half of May will have a negative impact on the future yield. Long-term consequences of such heat are reduction of the early spring crops yield by 1030%. This, primarily, concerns the east, southern east and Crimea,» the agrarian weather forecaster has said. According to her information, sowings were in the state of the soil drought on the backdrop of high temperatures, which inhibited the plants. The expected rains will have a beneficial influence on late cultures, such as corn, sunflower seeds, buckwheat, millet and soya. The meteorologist noted that if the rains fall, it is possible to expect that there will be no further reduction of the forecasted yield. Until the end of May, the moderate temperature regime will be in Ukraine, close to the norm in daytime from +18 tî +22, in the south to +25. Proceeding from available data about sowings of winter cultures for 2012 yield, the course of the spring sowing campaign and weather conditions, the company ProAgro forecasts that in 2012 gross yield of grain crops and leguminous cultures, including corn, may be 47.7 million tons in weight after processing in Ukraine.
