Ukraine's ambassador: Russia does not want to solve cheese issue at expert level
28.02.2012 12:27 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Russian consumers’ right and health protection agency Rospotrebnadzor refuses to take the «cheese issue» from the public plain and to bring it to the expert level, Ukraine’s ambassador to Russian Volodymyr Yelchenko said.
«We repeatedly asked Rospotrebnadzor to discuss the problem at the expert level. Ukraine has officials, ready to go to Moscow and hold bilateral consultations. But unfortunately, Russia first make public statements, and only then takes steps to solve the issue,» Yelchenko said.
The diplomat informed that on Friday Ukraine’s embassy delivered to Rospotrebnadzor a letter from chairman of Ukraine’s state veterinary and sanitary service Ivan Bisuyk with a request to confirm officially and provide corresponding documents on that the Ukrainian side allegedly did not provide any proofs that Ukrainian dairy products meet the quality standards.
«Ignoring to answer to the official inquiry Onishchenko immediately commented on this information through mass media,» the ambassador said.
According to Yelchenko, Ukraine said from the very beginning that this cheese issue was a technical question, which must be solved by means of existing mechanisms of cooperation between two countries, involving only sanitary services and relevant ministries.
«For some reason they ignore this way. I don’t have enough grounds to declare that Rospotrebnadzor pursues some different goals, but with every next statement made by Onishchenko it gets more and more suspicious,» the official added.
