Ukraine has discussed joint climatic action with the European Union

Ukraine has discussed with the European Commission preliminary positions of the sides to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and the 7th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (ÑÎÐ17/MOP17), as well as on the second period of the Kyoto Protocol. This issue has been discussed at meeting of a working group Ukraine-EU concerning climate change which has taken place in Bruxelles on September, 26th.
The European side has presented a roadmap EU of move to the low-carbon economy by 2050. In it, in particular, contains plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% till 2020 and by 80% till 2050. The special attention is paid to the energy sector, which is scheduled to complete the transition to the without carbon electricity generation by 2050.
Ukraine, in turn, has briefed the participants of the meeting with the prospects of legislation on climate change. In particular, they talked about was adopted in first reading the draft law «On regulation in the sphere of energy saving», which has been developed to fulfill the obligations of Ukraine to the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol to it. This draft law defines the legal, economic and organizational basis of public policy in the sphere of regulation of anthropogenic emissions and removals of greenhouse gases in order to improve efficiency by introducing energy-saving technologies.
The system of state management and control of greenhouse gas emissions, proposed by the project, would allow the state to exercise constant control and accounting of greenhouse gas emissions at these facilities, as well as engage in the Ukrainian economy targets environmental (green) investments for the introduction of the newest environmental technologies and the implementation of socially significant projects.
In addition, Ukraine has taken the initiative to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on climate change between the European Union and Ukraine since 2013.
