Ukraine harvests over 37 million tons of grain by September 21

22.09.2011 12:07 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Ukraine as of September 21 harvested over 37 million tons of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 11.98 million hectares, or 77% of the forecast. The average yield of these crops in the country was 30.9 quintals per hectare, compared to 25.7 quintals per hectare last year. In particular, farmers harvested 1.86 million tons of corn from an area of 364,000 hectares (10% of the target), with its average yield being 51.1 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 it was 39.6 quintals per hectare. Ukraine also threshed 264,000 tons of buckwheat from an area of 235,000 hectares (79% of the forecast), with its average yield being 11.2 quintals per hectare, compared to last year’s 8.4 quintals per hectare. As of September 21, agribusinesses also harvested 4.153 million tons of sunflower seeds from an area of 2.318 million hectares (51% of the forecast), with their average yield being 17.9 quintals per hectare, whereas in 2010 the figure was 15.6 quintals per hectare.
