Russia may join WTO this year - Lamy

Russia may join the World Trade Organization this year, WTO’s Director-General Pascal Lamy said.
He added that a corresponding decision may be passed by WTO ministers at a conference in December.
For today, Russia is the world’s biggest non-WTO economy.
Talks about Russia’s accession to the WTO have been under way since 1993 and are in their final stage.
Bilateral agreements on Russia’s access to various services and markets have been signed by all 60 members of the working group overseeing Russia’s accession to the WTO.
Among issues that remain to be settled are veterinary and sanitary standards, investment in trade and a number of measures in the car industry.
