Senate panel set to vote on CFTC nominee on Tuesday
02.08.2011 09:38 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Senate Agriculture Committee plans to vote on Tuesday on Mark Wetjen who has been nominated as a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which is in the midst of crafting dozens of new financial reform rules.
An aide with the Senate Agriculture Committee said the vote is expected to occur after the Democratic-controlled Senate acts on its debt bill at noon.
Wetjens appointment would come at a crucial time for the CFTC, which is working to put in place the Dodd-Frank law, enacted in July 2010, that gives the agency oversight of the $600 trillion global swaps market.
The 37-year old would replace outgoing Democrat Michael Dunn as one of the five commissioners at the CFTC.
Wetjen, who is counsel and senior policy advisor to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, must still be confirmed by the full Senate.
