Philippines could buy 200,000 T rice in March-
09.03.2011 15:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Philippines state grain
agency said on Tuesday it was looking to import 200,000 tonnes of rice as soon as this month amid concerns unseasonally
wet weather could lower the domestic harvest.
The Philippines has approved rice imports of 1.3 million
tonnes for 2011 but has indicated it wanted to limit shipments
to about two-thirds of that, relinquishing its position
in recent years as the worlds biggest buyer of rice. For
2010, Manila imported a record 2.45 million tonnes.
«The NFA may buy within this month. Im just waiting for
the NFA Councils approval,» National Food Authority
(NFA) administrator Angelito Banayo told Reuters in a
phone interview.
