14.01.2011 09:44 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Coconut Development Board has called for expanding coconut cultivation to farm level, to tap the commercial crop’s vast export potential.Speaking at the inauguration of the national conference in Bangalore, Coconut Development Board Chairman Anup Kumar Thakur said the sector had to shift from small scale domestic cultivation to large scale technology intensive sector.
«At present, coconut is grown domestically by households, and the area of cultivation is very small. But if we utilise modern technology to grow coconuts in large areas, it would significantly increase yield and enable exports», he said.
