Australia. Grain unloading delays to force up costs and hamper harvest
23.09.2010 12:34 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Truck drivers claim they are waiting up to 18 hours to unload grain as handlers struggle to keep up with demand.
Australia is preparing for its third biggest winter crop on record with most production from the eastern states.
Theres concerns a shortage of trucks will make transporting the harvest difficult.
Andrew Higginson from the Livestock and Bulk Carriers Association says unloading delays are already causing problems.
«It really doesnt matter how many trucks might be available weve actually got to get both sides of the equation right,» he says.
«The transport and availability and professional transport doing the task and grain receival points being able to do their end of the job efficiently too so we get the trucks back to do the job.»
