PepsiCo sets New Beverage Industry Standard in China with New Nanchang Plant

Recently, PepsiCo Greater China’s Nanchang beverage plant has been certified with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold status. It is the first plant to receive the LEED NC (New Construction) Gold certification in the beverage industry in China, according to the published information on the US Green Building Council (USGBC) website.
The rating from USGBC acknowledges the plant’s high-class site, water/ energy efficiency, material and resource conservation, and indoor environmental quality, etc.
«The LEED Gold Certification for Pepsi Nanchang new plant is a further proof of PepsiCo’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through the development of more sustainable facilities in China», PepsiCo Greater China Operations Vice President Kerswick Leung said, introducing that the relocated Nanchang new plant can save potable water use by 33% and can achieve energy consumption savings of 54%, compared to the old Nanchang plant.
With the new LEED Gold certification for Nanchang new plant, PepsiCo has raised the bar of sustainable practices in the beverage industry in China.
PepsiCo now has 22 bottling plants in Greater China region and all the future plants in China will be built by LEED standards.
