Pakistan. WFP to provide 10,000 tins of edible oil

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture and World Food Programme on Friday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the latter will provide 10,000 tins of edible oil to the government. The MoU signing ceremony was chaired by Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal and attended among others by WFP Regional Director Kerno Oshidari.
After signing the MoU, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal said that the WFP has really done an excellent job in the aftermath of devastating floods. According to the MoU, the Minfa through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will receive 36.66 MT (10,000) tins from WFP for the flood affected people of Pakistan. On the occasion Regional Director WFP requested the minister for the provision of wheat and rice so that it could be disbursed in the affected areas.
Gondal said the nation is grateful to the WFP and the world community for the help they gave to Pakistan in this hour of trial and trouble. He said that the ministry would seriously consider the proposals as discussed in the meeting. He added that co-ordinated efforts are needed to focus towards the betterment of farmers, as they are worst hit by floods across Pakistan. The meting was also attended by secretary, additional secretary and other officials of Minfa besides Wolfgang Herbinger, WFP country head in Pakistan.
