Germany's illegal GM seed find should not harm maize prices
08.06.2010 13:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Grain traders in Europe are hoping that the uncovering of the biggest ever contamination of maize seed with unapproved genetically modified (GM) varieties in Germany will not affect the feed and food chain because the crops are not harvested yet.
According to Lower Saxonys environment ministry, the contaminated seeds, making up about 0.1% of the total seed supply, were sown over at least 3,000 hectares in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein.
