India. Punjab lifts 91.60 lakh tonne wheatThe Financial Express

Government agencies and private millers have procured more than 91.60 lakh tonne of wheat in Punjab till last evening as compared to 92.91 lakh tonne during the same period last year.
Out of total procurement of 91.60 lakh tonne of wheat, government agencies procured 91.33 lakh tonne of wheat (99.7%) till date whereas private traders procured 26763 tonne (0.3%) of wheat. Pungrain procured 15.14 lakh tonne (16.5%) whereas Markfed procured 21.30 lakh tonne (23.3%).
FCI has procured 14.78 lakh tonne (16.1%). A spokesman of the Punjab government said that Ferozepur with 10.16 lakh tonne of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur with 8.74 lakh tonne of procurement was at second position and Patiala with 7.95 lakh tonne of procurement ranked at the third position.
The state government has set up 1,650 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, the spokesman added. The government has targeted to procure around 26 million tonne wheat this year. Punjab and Haryana contribute around 80% of wheat to the central pool.
