Debates on agriculture and education to mark the upcoming plenary at EESC
27.04.2010 10:56 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
At its upcoming plenary session, EESC will host the Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for inter-institutional relations and administration Mr. Maroš Šefčovič, who is to introduce the Commissions 2010 working program to the members. The Committee will also take a close look at various aspects of the future of European agriculture at a debate starting with the opening remarks of Agriculture Commissioner Mr. Dacian Cioloş.
On Wednesday 28 April, EESC hosts two high ranking guests at its plenary session in the Charlemagne building. Visiting the EESC plenary for the second time this year, Mr. Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for inter-institutional relations and administration will present the Commissions Work Programme for 2010. His fellow commissioner Mr. Dacian Cioloş, in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, will open the floor for debate on a number of draft opinions on agriculture.
Following Commissioner Dacian Cioloşs statement, Mr. Lutz Ribbe (Group III, Various Interests), the author of EESCs own vision on the future of CAP adopted with a historically overwhelming majority at the March plenary session, will take the floor.
The EESC will then examine the improvements and upgrades that Mr. José María Espuny Moyano (Group I, Employers) proposes to the Common Agricultural Policy, which he considers a true agri-food model in his draft opinion.
Mr. Carlos Trías Pinto (Group III, Various Interests) is responsible for an opinion on the improvement of competitiveness of European food products coming from agriculture. The EESC is going to examine how a more robust quality policy and better information provided to consumers can contribute to boosting the opportunities of European agricultural produce on markets.
2010 is the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, which is a good occasion for the EESC to take a look at how education and training can help people live active lives as useful members of society (Rapporteur: Ms. María Candelas Sánchez Miguel, Group II, Employees). The opinion is especially timely in the run-off to the EESCs major biannual conference, examining this important issue in Florence, Italy on 2022 May.
