South US Farmers Talk Corn

Agriculture in the Southern U. S. usually brings to mind cotton, sorghum and vegetables among others. And now added to that mix is… corn?

«We planted Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ and I could tell that it was a minimum of five bushels, probably a maximum of 15–20 above just the standard Bt corn,» Brad Cole, Northeast North Carolina farmer, said. «It just grows better, it’s got a lot more plant vigor, and it stands up to the harsh conditions. And it yields.
The one thing I really noticed about it when it was harvest time was the size of the ear, the size of the kernel, the color of the grain is a lot brighter, it’s shinier, waxier, darker orange color and at the end when we were picking it the tickets were coming back with the test weight and the test weights were 62, 63 pounds, one hopper in one load was 64 pounds, versus the standard 56. You start adding… higher numbers together, and figure you’re adding bushels over a period of time.»
