28% winter rape sown areas frozen out
15.02.2010 10:30 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
In Ternopil region 28% winter rape sown areas have frozen out, reported Mariya Dermanska, Chief of Agricultural Products Output Department (Ternopil Regional Agroindustrial Development Administration).
As to Dermanska, weak/rare seedlings have been found at 17,000 ha.
«Average winter rape seedlings density is to be 6090 per square meter; however, density at frost-affected areas is just 2030. So, agricultural companies will start resowing those areas where seedlings are too rare,» admitted Department Chief.
She said winter rape seedlings were frozen out due to their late germination.
«Due to moisture absence, rape germinated only in Oct and therefore didn’t have time enough to get developed as much as to withstand strong frosts. Critical temperature for these seedlings was - 5 °C,» stated Dermanska.
She made it known other 43,000 ha (72% total) winter rape sown areas are in good/satisfactory condition. Upon whole, in Ternopil region winter rape has germinated at 60,000 ha.
As to Dermanska, other winter grains sown areas are in good condition as heavy
snowfalls have covered seedlings with enough snow.
