Slauta considers cancellation of 17 % sunseeds’ export duty inexpedient
08.06.2004 16:57 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Viktor Slauta, Minister of Agrarian Policy, considers cancellation of 17 % sunseeds’ export duty to be inexpedient. As to him, draught laws as for change of oil crops’ export conditions, initiated by some people's deputies, are usual to appear in Parliament from time to time. As earlier reported, in response to proposal of deputy Valeriy Martynovskiy to cancel 17 % sunseeds’ export duty in order to create equal working conditions for all domestic agrarian market’s participants, Verkhovna Rada in Jun 2001 has lowered sunseeds’ export duty from 23% to 17% (with new export duty coming into force on Oct 1, 2001), simultaneously having banned using give-and-take schemes of sunseeds’ export. As to preliminary data, since early this MS (Sep 2003-Apr 2004), sunseeds’ export totaled 870.000t. Agrarian market’s experts forecast 2003-2004 sunseeds’ export to hit 0.9 million tons. 2003 sunseeds’ crop amounted to 4.2 million tons, up 0.977 million tons (+ 29.89%, in terms of weigh after additional processing), as of 2002.
