Eurocommission to grant EUR9 mn to Ukrainian agrarian sector

Eurocommission will spend EUR9 mn to implement Ukrainian agrarian sphere technical project, reported Mariann Fischer-Boel, Eurocommissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. As to Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy, project will help Ukraine to fulfill its agrarian sector obligations taken as WTO member and within European Neighbourhood Policy frameworks. As to Ministry, part of EUR9 mn is to be directed to improve Ministry of Agrarian Policy officers professional skills. Besides, finances will be spent also to prompt Ukrainian market infrastructure development, in part., to elaborate European-type wholesale market in Odessa. Also, due to project Food Security clause, EUR3 mn will be spent to purchase crop yield forecasting system MARS as well as special equipment for 6 State laboratories. Besides, project stipulates that finances are to be directed also to help Ukrainian rural areas development. Project is to last until 2011. Minister of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk admitted EU provides not only financial aid. As to him, Ukraine has succeeded to create grains market regulation Agrarian Fund/adopt biofuel Law mainly due to having taken experience from EU countries. Melnyk added biofuel Law is expected to be signed by President Viktor Yushchenko this week.
