New Ukrainian wheat standard appears in next few days
26.05.2009 14:25 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
New Ukrainian wheat standard will be issued in next few days, said State Inspection for Agricultural Products Control and Agricultural Products Markets Monitoring Chief Vasyl Melnyk on May 22/09 while reporting on Grain Forum & Grain Industry − 2009 Yalta conference. “Wheat new standard is about to be signed. Official Decree is to be issued today or on Mon,” admitted Melnyk. As to Melnyk, altered standard (to come into force since new MY beginning) is “pilot project” with 1 year validity. New standard stipulates that soft wheat should be classified into 2 groups and 6 classes. Besides, wheat is to be graded into high-protein and bread-making wheat (for that, protein and gluten content gradation is to be introduced). “New standard will enable companies to store separately high-protein and bread-making wheat, unlike demanded by previous wheat storage requirements,” admitted Melnyk.
