Ukraine has sown winter grains at ≈ 70% total planned areas

As of Oct 06/08, Ukrainian agricultural companies have sown winter grains at 5.145 mn ha (≈ 70% total planned areas), incl. winter wheat – at 4.465 mn ha (71%), reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy on Mon referring to regions operative data. As to report, as of Oct 05/07, winter grains were sown at 5.858 mn ha (incl. winter wheat – at 5.162 mn ha). As to Ministry, as of Oct 06/08, agrarians have sown total winter crops at 5.227 mn ha (≈ 70% total planned areas, excl. winter rape). If winter rape sown areas (1.252 mn ha) are also taken into account, total winter crops sown areas have already reached 98% total planned areas. Ministry experts forecast this year agrarians will sow total winter crops at 7.5 mn ha (excl. winter rape), with winter grains to be sown at 7.4 mn ha. As earlier reported, in 2007 Ukraine had sown winter grains at 8 mn ha (2008 crop), up 16% against 2006 (2007 crop).
