Ministry of Agrarian Policy worried about grains being stored unequally on regional elevators
20.08.2008 14:55 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Mnistry of Agrarian Policy is concerned with grains being kept on elevators unequally as for regions, reported Anatoliy Rozgon, Agrarian Market Development Department Director.
Rozgon said grains being kept on elevators unequally as for regions is one of this season main grains storage problems.
As to him, presently 12.5 mn MT grains are stored on certified elevators (what is just 35% elevators full capacities).
Department Director added now many elevators store also rape (it is to be admitted, rape demands more storage space due to storage specifics) and, besides, have stopped preparing facilities for maize/sunseeds acceptance.
Rozgon emphasized even despite expected high grains crop this year grains quality appeared to be worse against last year.
Department Director reminded Ministry of Agrarian Policy had forecasted that this year food wheat would share only 40% of total grains crop.
However, Rozgon said this year food wheat crop should be sufficient: as to him, agrarians had already harvested 25 mn MT total wheat, incl. 10 mn MT food wheat, while Ukrainian annual food wheat consumption is only 5 mn MT.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, Ukrainian agricultural companies of all kinds ownership had (as of Aug 15/08) harvested 40.918 mn MT grains/leguminous crops.
