Ukraine abolished embargo on poultry meat import from Belgium

State Customs Service, refering to Veterinary Medicine State Department’s letter, has abolished emabargo upon import of poultry meat as well as any products of its processing from Belgium, due to absence in this country’s territory of dangerous animal (poultry) infectious disease, i.e. highly pathogenic avian influenza, reports Mar 11, 2004 State Customs Service’s leter. Customs has notified its regional branches to consider Jul 22, 2003 Veterinary Medicine State Department’s letter ineffective. As to Intenational Epizootic Bureau’s official report, Belgium has reestablished its status of country, safe as for highly pathogenic avian influenza. As reported, Veterinary Service has banned 2004 import of poultry meat from Cambodia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, due to cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza, having been registered in these countries’ territories. Besides, Veterinary Service has prohibited import of poultry meat from three US states: Delaware, Texas, Maryland as well as from Canadian province British Columbia. Within spring 2003 Veterinary Service has banned import of poultry meat as well as any products of its processing from Belgium, due to cases of dangerous animal (poultry) infectious disease, i.e. highly pathogenic avian influenza, having been spread and registered in this country’s territory.
