Sunflower harvest 2007 may drop to 4 million tons – Agrarian Ministry

The Agrarian Ministry has downgraded sunflower harvest outlook to 4 million tons against last year’s 5.3 million tons, reported deputy agrarian minister Yurii Luzan.
«The harvest will be 2025% less,» Luzan put it.
According to him, drought severely affected sunflower in southern and central regions.
Scientists believe, sunflower harvest will comprise 33.5 million tons this year.
As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, sunflower harvest comprised 5.3 million tons last year, and 4.7 million tons in 2005.
This year farmers have sawn 3,461,500 ha under sunflower against 3,963,600 ha as of 2006.
