Farmers unwilling to sell grain in state’s reserve
19.07.2007 09:49 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Farmers refuse to sell grain for the state and regional resources, informs press service of the agrarian ministry citing minister Yurii Melnyk speaking at a selector meeting in the ministry. From the information follows that farmers have harvested about 12 million tons of grain, but operators have bought only a few tons for state’s resources. Therefore, the government failed to start grain purchases from July 1 as it planned. Probably, it will fail to buy grain needed for the domestic market within two months and limits on grain export will be prolonged. According to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, the government intended to buy about 3.5 million tons of grain within two months starting July 1 to create state’s and regional resources. The Cabinet of Ministers has banned export of grain till October due to forecasted low grain harvest (27-32 million tons by various estimates). State’s reserve is prepared to buy third grade wheat at UAH 1,043 per ton.
