Kharkiv region farmers harvest 600,000 tons of grain 2007

As of July 15, farmers of the Kharkiv region have harvested 600,000 tons of early grain and leguminous crops, press service of the Kharkiv regional state administration quotes head of the agrarian department Mykhailo Zhornyk as saying. Farmers have threshed grain and leguminous crops from the area of 250,000 ha of the planned 757,600 ha. Average early grain crops harvest comprises 25,8 metric centners/ha. Zhornyk presumes farmers will harvest 1 million tons of grain by July 29. Reportedly, Kharkiv farmers have harvested 33,000 tons of early grain and leguminous as of July 6. According to the State’s Statistic Committee, in 2006 farmers of the region have harvested 814,300 tons of wheat (winter and spring) from 372,300 ha; 628,200 tons of barley (winter and spring) from 345,900 ha.
