Turkey raises tariff on imported sunflowerseed
02.11.2022 09:33 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Following are selected highlights from a report issued by a U. S. Department of Agriculture attache in The Ankara, Turkey recently announced that the tariff on imported sunflowerseed would increase from zero to 5 percent from October 27 through the end of 2022. This revision coincides with Turkey’s sunflowerseed harvest. According to a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette on October 20, 2022, Turkey increased its tariff on sunflower seed from zero to 5 percent. The 5-percent tariff will be in effect from October 27 through the end of December of this year. The tariff lines subject to this change fall under Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) 1206.00. Earlier this year, in an attempt to reduce domestic food inflation, the government zeroed-out import tariffs on certain agricultural products, such as sunflowerseeds, meals, and oil. However, with the start of the domestic sunflower harvest in September, the government has raised tariffs on imported sunflowerseed and oil for the remainder of the year. The new tariffs remain below bound rates. Meantime, the import duty on sunflower meal remains at zero for the rest of the year.
