Thailand: Rice export prices increased 1-3 percent

03.12.2020 16:10 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Following are selected highlights from a report issued by a U. S. Department of Agriculture attache in The Bangkok, Rice export prices further increased 1–3 percent as foreign buyers continued seeking Thai white rice due to tight Vietnamese rice supplies. Vietnamese rice prices, which are typically U.S. $10–20/MT cheaper than Thai rice prices, surpassed Thai rice prices in October 2020. Thai rice prices are currently U.S. $25–30/MT cheaper than Vietnamese rice. Thai rice exporters are still concerned about the current foreign exchange risk as the Thai baht remain strong at around 30.27 baht/U.S. $1.00, compared to the previous week’s exchange rate of 30.01 baht/U.S. $1.00.

Rice Export Update

Unofficial and preliminary rice exports (excluding Hom Mali fragrant rice) for November 9–15, 2020, totaled 109,040 metric tons, down 23,664 metric tons from the previous week and up 1,284 metric tons from the four-week moving average of 107,756 metric tons. Rice exports from January 1 — November 15, 2020, totaled 3,742,296 metric tons, down 30 percent from the same period last year.
