13.09.2019 13:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, the European Commission and the World Health Organization co-hosted a Global Vaccination Summit within Brussels, Belgium, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, this high-level one-day event brought together around 400 people, including political leaders, high-level representatives from the UN and other international organizations, health ministries, leading academics, scientists and health professionals, the private sector, social media influencers, and NGOs.
It is to be admitted, the Summit goal is to propel global action against vaccine preventable diseases and against the spread of vaccine misinformation. The Summit is to demonstrate EU leadership for vaccination, boost political commitment towards eliminating vaccine preventable diseases and engage political leaders and leaders from scientific, medical, industry, philanthropic, digital media and civil society. Within the Summit, WHO joined forces with the European Union to tackle the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases and confront the spread of misinformation about inoculations.
As to the report, while speaking within the Summit, World Health Organization Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that one of 10 children worldwide fails to get the essential jabs they need.
As to the report, together with EU President Jean-Claude Juncker, Ghebreyesus called for governments and partners to invest into the immunization «as a right for all».
It is to be admitted, WHO immunization appeal comes amid a resurgence of preventable diseases, notably measles, which has seen infection rates surge above levels not seen since 2006. WHO admits that the people’s hesitancy about vaccines is now one of the 10 key threats to global health.
