Guterres: For Africa, ‘winds of hope are blowing ever stronger’

As of this week, an international conference TICAD 7 is held (this year Aug 28 30) within Yokohama (Japan), UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) is an international conference led by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.
As to the report, as of Aug 28, while kicking off the conference, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said African nations have made ‘significant progress’ within their developmental efforts within the last few years.
«I see Africa as a dynamic continent of opportunity where winds of hope are blowing ever stronger,» Guterres emphasized.
As to him, since the last TICAD conference (2016), Africa has seen advancements within areas from sustaining growth up to strengthening governance and promoting gender equality, with technology advancement being the catalyst for the continent developmental.
«Technology and innovation are central to unleashing Africa’s vast potential for the shared vision of leaving no one behind,» the Secretary-General said, highlighting the theme of this year TICAD conference.
«TICAD 7 may provide tremendous impetus to help Africa harness the power of technology and innovation for its sustainable development,» he said, calling for international collaboration within maximizing the use of modern tools.
«I look forward to productive discussions over the next days that will culminate in a common understanding of the priorities for common and coherent action to promote peace and sustainable development across Africa,» he stressed.
