Austria completely banned glyphosate
05.07.2019 21:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, the Austrian Parliament has approved a complete banning of the glyphosate use on country territory (classified by the World Health Organization as «potentially carcinogenic»), Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the Le Monde report.
As to the report, thus Austria has become the first country of the European Union to ban the controversial herbicide in the name of the «precautionary principle».
It is to be admitted, the banning necessity has been discussed by the Austrain society within a few weeks; the banning opponents affirm it does not comply with EU norms, since the license to use glyphosate within the EU countries remains effcient until Dec 15, 2022.
It is to be noted, as of 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified glyphosate as «probably carcinogen.» It is to be admitted, glyphosate is now used under various brands, since the patent belonging to the US Monsanto Group has become a public domain within 2000. As of now, biggest output of the Monsanto glyphosate is now assured by the German chemical giant Bayer.
