As of this week, within the customs control at the Kyiv region West customs’ post, a quarantine disease was detected within the US-made maize (for popcorn) shipment, Ukrinform says referring to the Ukrainian State Service for Foods Safety and Consumer Protection report.
«The State phytosanitary inspectors, while making a phytosanitary control of the import shipments at the Kyiv region West customs’ post, within a popcorn maize shipment weighing 41,504 tons from US, have found a quarantine disease, which is absent on the territory of Ukraine - that is, maize diplopodiosis (Stenocarpella maydis (Berkeley Sutton),» the report reads.
As to the report, the infected shipment was detained, and so the phytosanitary measures would be applied to it due to the current legislation.
«In order to prevent further similar cases, we have sent a notice of the non-conformity of the goods with the Ukrainian phytosanitary requirements to the exporting country - the United States,» the report reads.
