07.05.2019 17:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, the UNESCO has launched the Global Assessment study, showing the impact of humans on nature worldwide, UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, the Study has been presented at the UNESCO headquarters within Paris to more than 130 government delegations for their approval; this is the first such Study since 2005.
As to the Study, about 1 million species risk becoming extinct within next few decades, while current efforts to conserve the earth natural resources will likely fail without radical action.
While commenting on the Stude, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said that its findings put the world «on notice».
«Following the adoption of this historic report, no one will be able to claim that they did not know. We can no longer continue to destroy the diversity of life. This is our responsibility towards future generations,» he stressed.
The Study provides exhaustive insights on the global nature state, ecosystems and how nature underpins all human activity. The Study also examines five main drivers of «unprecedented» biodiversity and ecosystem change within the past 50 years, identifying them as: changes in land and sea use; direct exploitation of organisms; climate change, pollution, and invasion of alien species.
